Summon: Et’Zel, a King CobraPower:
Et’Zel is completely black, save for the ring pattern on his hood, which is a deep red. He’s a pessimist and bitter, but he like hanging around Corruption as a means of amusement. Has a knack for showing up at the most convenient times, despite his insistence that it isn’t intentional. Prefers to stay out of direct combat, but will lie in wait as a trap if requested.
His venom is not the standard poison, but instead a liquid extract of “Tag”. If one attempts to suck out the poison after a bite, they will be affected by “Tag” instead.
Affinity Based: TagWeapon:
Corruption’s affinity ability is to well, spread corruption. Whether he intends to or not, everything he touches becomes “tagged” with a unique energy signature detectable by both Corruption and Energy-based Immortals. (Note: It feels bad for Virtues and Deus, good for Sins.) This cannot be spread except direct from Corruption via skin contact, or his summon. A person (human or immortal) that has been tagged will acquire a little voice in their heads that attempts to drive them mad. The more corruption one has, and the closer to the head or heart, the stronger the voice gets (a fingerprint on a toe will create a barely noticeable whisper; two hands on the head will create deafening screaming). A tag can be removed via energy transfer, mental healing, or once it is used for “Burst” (or destroyed via fire, acid, etc.). Corruption losing consciousness negates the effects, but they resume once he awakes. Killing Corruption removes all tags. Tags are visible to Corruption, others can only sense them. Tags have no known effects on plants or non-living things, but will disrupt energy. Tags will cause insanity in animals (summons exempted). This ability affects Corruption’s weapon at all times.
Element Based: Burst
Bust is relatively simple: generate a burst of flame from a tag. The size and intensity of the flame is dependent on how much energy Corruption uses at the point of ignition, and how much area is tagged. For sustained burning, the surface must be flammable. If only a portion of a tagged surface is used, then the rest remains active (unless it’s burned to a crisp).
Yes, Corruption can set himself on fire. He has done so once, then never again. Flesh tends to be flammable. Same with clothing. And hair. ...It was a bad month.
Dual SlingsAppearance:
Corruption uses two slings, along with 16 steel balls, each approximately 3 inches in diameter. He can shoot both simultaneously with reduced accuracy, or one at a time with pinpoint aim. For close combat, the slings and shot are handled similar to poi, typically disarming with his left hand and attacking with his right. The slings themselves are simple strips of leather set to fit the shot, but are immune to fire. The balls themselves are deep red steel and are always warm to the touch. They can be set ablaze at any time with Corruption’s power, often in midair. They will burn until Corruption either chooses to douse them or he collapses from exhaustion. The temperature of the balls is constant; no matter how recently they were set ablaze. The balls can be sensed at close (within a few meters) range by fire and energy immortals, and Corruption can sense them at any distance by focusing.
Note that if the weapon is disengaged, the slings and balls both disappear, and will reappear with Corruption when reengaged, no matter what the range. The slings themselves are a tough material and can resist a human’s and Virtue’s weapons but have no special resistance to Sin-based weaponry. Abilities from both sides have equal effect, unless they are specifically Sin or Virtue based. The steel balls are much tougher than standard steel, but have no special resistances or weaknesses.
Corruption prefers to fight at a distance, and tries to create a field advantage by creating traps with Tag and Burst. He’s not weak at close combat, and will attempt to use Tag on his opponent, but he prefers to fight at a range. If forced into hand to hand, he will use martial arts and strike with an open palm, prioritizing Tag over force.
Height: 5”9History:
Weight: Light, but not rail-thin.
His hair is cropped to just below his ears, with a small ponytail at the back. Depending on how much energy he has left, his hair will slowly turn from a bright red to black, beginning at the ends and working inwards.
His eyes are typically black, but flash red when Burst is used.
He’s usually grinning about one thing or another. It’s a little disturbing.
He typically wears an open black vest with a red flame motif, and loose black pants. This is meant to maximize mobility and comfort, while maintaining a showman’s appearance. He’ll wear a shirt under the vest if the temperature drops too much. For footwear he prefers sandals, as they’re easiest to slip out of when needed. He doesn’t wear socks unless absolutely necessary.
Upon reincarnation as a Sin he gained a large black triangle on his upper back. He keeps it covered at all times by his vest.
He keeps his slings and shot in pockets on the inside of his vest.
Corruption was born as Etzo, the bastard son of a noblewoman of Infadell and was sent to an orphanage without knowing her face. He grew up alongside the other orphans, and felt comforted by their mutual suffering. As the years went by, however, more and more were adopted, and fewer and fewer arrived. He became more prone to violence as a means of coping with loneliness, and was discharged from the orphanage at 13. He never begged on the streets, instead choosing to forcefully rob the unfortunate passerby.Behaviour:
At the age of 15 he was the most wanted teen in the city, with a little over twenty bodies to his credit. He eventually made his way into the art of street performing, his identity hidden behind a mask. His specialty was juggling, and he soon learned from other performers how to use poi and slings. Upon turning 17 he was taken in by a troupe of performers, and entertained the public nightly.
His talents and youth eventually generated jealousy among the other members, and they suggested he attempt fire poi on the night of the summer solstice. Etzo trained for months in preparation, and was completely prepared. However, on the night of the performance the normally solid fuel that kept the poi lit was replaced by black powder.
Etzo lit the poi for the last time on center stage.
For the past year, Corruption has been the reason children stay indoors at sunset. He prefers to stalk lone wanderers at night, setting off Bursts at random for amusement. He practices with his slings by seeing how close he can miss a street target, often terrorizing them until they reach a safe haven. He hasn’t accidentally hit anyone in the past three months, and can pick off a street rat from a rooftop. By day he makes a living as a street performer, juggling and performing tricks with poi for coin. This is as much training as a living and it allows him to maintain a relatively normal life.
If you’re happy and he knows it, run away. He’ll do what he can to wipe a smile off your face, and put one on his. If you’re depressed and show it, he’ll act like a best friend, and encourage you to take out your problems on the world. He’s currently responsible for the destruction of 5 bars, 20 marriages failing, 15 murder-suicides, and 4 brawls a week. Of course, you can’t link it to him directly. He’s plants the seed (and the tag) and waits for the news to spread.Other:
He mostly looks for different methods of amusement, not particularly caring for the ramifications. He’s a little pissed off at the world in general, and figures it owes him for how his life turned out. As such, he likes to see people’s lives shattered, considering turnabout to be fair play. He prefers emotional torture to physical torture, as it creates more people who hate the world, like him.
If you challenge him to anything, he won’t be satisfied unless you’re a broken shell of your former self. Someone once beat him in a race, and as that man was coming in first during a city-wide race, Corruption shot out his knees. Man had to crawl into fourth. If you challenge him to a fight, he won’t kill you unless you really piss him off. Of course, he tends to get a little excitable when it comes to combat, so he sometimes overdoes it.
Et’Zel instructed Corruption in the ways of Sins, including a brief synopsis of their history: “We used to have a mighty empire, but our leader gave up her power to two subordinates and disappeared. Soon after the Virtues showed up and destroyed everything that was ours, and now the Sins are hiding out Taint knows where while the Virtues lord over the land like royal pigs.”Journal: link
Corruption added it to the list of things that he hates and continued living in Infadell. Not much point in looking for a bunch of wimps who couldn’t do anything solo.
He smokes handmade cigarettes, a habit he picked up when he was Etzo. They consist of paper he rolled himself plus venom from Et’Zel. The second hand smoke from it creates mild Tag effects, but is far more intense if directly inhaled.
He has little memory of his past life, and remembers only pain, suffering, and humiliation
