All in all, there's nothing grand nor magnificent about the book before you. It's hardcover and teal, the kind cheaply purchased at stores wherever one goes. This one has seen a bit of wear, of course, as would any well-used notebook. It's proof the owner loved it. Perhaps he still does.
On the first page, before anything else, there are a few definitions jotted down, as if copied directly from a dictionary. These words must be special to the author.
- sin; [sin] - any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense.
- regret; [ri-gret] - to think of with a sense of loss: to regret one's vanished youth.
- sing; [sing] - to utter words or sounds in succession with musical modulations of the voice.
- requiem; [rek-wee-uhm] - any musical service, hymn, or dirge for the repose of the dead.
You understand possibly a little bit more. Unsatisfied, you turn the page and begin to read.
