I'd help if we did this in a test forum type thing. Like I said in the other thread, I think that a system makes sense, because not everyone can just be the best at everything they do. I think that the system needs some work, and if a test forum will help to improve the system, I'm on board.

Alright guys. I sorta have an idea planned out for this. I want to make it so there's going to be some aspects you like alongside those you may not prefer as much. Firstly, I'd like to ask you to stop eating Ariadne's brain. The shop is in beta and for the time being, nobody needs to follow it. I'm going to simplify it a LOT because yes, it does restrict you guys at the moment. In fact, thinking of Skill having no skills makes me lol a bit. But that's beside the point. I'm going to try and break these up into a few easy-to-handle categories. GENERIC / MASTERIES - Things like conversational skills, breathing (lawl), cooking, combat, etc. It can be assumed that all of you are already adept at this-- you're alive, aren't you? I don't think any of these should really be included. Or at least, it shouldn't be as defined as it is now. The only reason we're putting these in is for you to possibly MASTER them. No, don't worry, you don't need to master breathing. We might put meditating in instead. - I'm still debating whether these masteries will be buyable or not. I'm thinking not. PERSONAL - These are simply for fun. Things like artistry, musical instruments, forging items, thievery, writing (no, this would not be known by most people to begin with), beautification, alchemy... you know, the simple things that people will like just to add quirks to their characters. They aren't typical skills that give advantages over others in battle (if you can find a way to do it, be my guest, and I'll call you amazing for your creativity!). These will be the skills that a BUYABLE.[/u] The points you get can go towards these, nothing else that will give anyone superiority over you just because they post more. - Yes, we will assign people to moderate areas for closed threads. These skills can be given as well as bought if it is agreed that you've earned them. We're not going to stop you from trying anything, believe me... if you try, it'll be experience that will build you up towards higher levels. Please see below, because I've got more future-related updates on this 'experience' scale.ELEMENTAL Yes, you heard right. Because one of the future factions has the same sort of idea as this, it'll eventually be possible for your character to raise their levels in other elements, although this is VERY moderated and decided by all the staff together. You will DEFINITELY not train for a day and suddenly be able to wield a second element. This will take TIME. These "abilities" rather than skills, will be assigned. Now before you get yourself in a rush and scurry over to my house to bite my ears off, or the like, please note that this too is still under construction. I realize we're going to come upon problems with people thinking that older characters should know more, etc. etc. This is not the case. As far as the characters currently know, they CAN only control one element, and sometimes may do... slightly weird things accidentally. Not often at all. They'll begin soon developing these weird new abilities, and when they meet this new faction, evolution will really start happening. I'll explain more later. Does everyone get a basic idea so far? It's not going to be horridly complex, lol. Nothing to worry about. You won't have to stick to any more guidelines than you currently have.

After reviewing all that was said and thinking about it, I'm going to respectfully say that I'm against adding a skill system. For other sites, such as Tazlure, this may have worked wonders, but I don't see it being beneficial here. Even if the system is fleshed out more and more and more, I think the way we've come to enjoy this site, it's going to:
1) Feel more like a restriction than anything. Sure, characters aren't supposed to be super-duper powerful in what they do. But I think people here have a pretty good handle on this. And if someone oversteps? A staff member can notify them, instead of having a skill system where you guess if you're within the bounds of your 'level', and then if you get it wrong, a staff member has to inform you anyhow! On the flip side of the coin, not everyone is good at everything. Again, I think we can roleplay off each other, and do give and take as far as combat is concerned rather than feel limited because of a skill we DON'T have.
2) Staff work. Whichever way you do it, this is going to put a big strain on the staff shoulders. Whether in the end it's fleshing out the shop, reviewing each and every character, reviewing each and every thread--this is a LOT of effort for something that's immediately getting mixed reviews. And I also don't want to see staff enthusiasm stunted. I'd rather see no system, and lots more artwork and lands and stuff than you punching X hours into character/shop/thread reviews.
In all, I think we'd get a lot better unrestricted roleplay, with a few problems every now and then from a no skill point system. Just my opinion.

Insanity will personally use all those mentioned skills in combat. Starting with breathing. Send me a pm if you set up a beta Ariadne!

I guess what it comes down to is it will be fun to play with if your board but don't let it get in the way of our role playing. That sounds like the basics.

Well we will just all have to give this the chance it deserves. I see it could go either way at this point, but why not try it? I think it could be interesting and add a whole new layer to our RPing.
Although, I'm going to have to take some time on my own to look at everything and figure them out for Pride. o.O

I know I'm probably necroposting here, but I'd like to make a suggestion.
What if a character could apply for skills, based on their History, Powers, etc.
For example, pretty much everyone who's been in Kham'Hur for the past 3 years would know how to swim, unless they have a strong aversion to water. If they had a history as an actor, or have an outgoing personality, then some acting skills aren't unreasonable.
Buying skills and 'leveling up', in a sense, doesn't sound that realistic. However if someone was to 'learn' or repeatedly attempt actions that would influence a certain skill, then they could use these to apply for a new skill or upgrade. ie: someone has low skills in martial arts. They spend a fair bit of time training and sparring with other members. After a certain number of posts they feel that they could apply for a skill upgrade (or a new skill if they had no prior experience) to a moderator, using the posts as their application.
I feel this would help reduce the desire to hyperpost and add to the RP, but I understand it would be a strain on the moderators (There's currently 72 characters, if you're curious.)
